Stage 4: Data analysis and report writing

The data will be first checked for data entry error. Items of the respective scales will be subjected to factor and reliability analysis. Analysis will be carried out in correspondence to the research questions/objectives. Summary descriptive statistics (i.e., percentage, mean, and standard deviation) will be reported to describe the study variables. For the inferential analysis, binomial regression will be performed to determine the relationships of key independent variables (need for cognition, attitudes toward news sharing, subjective norm on reaction to provocative news, perceived news salience, new literacy, and age) with the dependent variable (reaction to emotion elicit provocative news).  In the regression analysis, personal motivation values as a potential moderator will also be factored in.
